I know there are absolutely tons of places to shop for bridal goods and that,  plus the lack of adequate time and money, can sometimes be overwhelming.  You can’t possibly go to every shop or boutique that you would like to, not to mention all of the websites.  And just finding all of the good websites can be a chore in itself.  So….I’m going to periodically list some of my favorites.  I’m just as pressed for time as your are and very impatient by nature, so if I can’t quickly figure out how to work through a site, you’ve lost me.  I also don’t like a site that is disorganized, unattractive, or doesn’t give me all the information I need to make a decision without searching high and low.  So with all of these qualifiers, these are sites that pass my test and I thought would be worth your time!!

If you are having a beach wedding, these are to die for!!  Just be aware that they are priced by each and not a pair.

There are lots of veil sites out there, but this one seemed especially nice.

Even if you think you want a veil, you must look at this site for alternate ideas  – unique and stylish!  And look at all the flowers you can use.

This is a very easy workable site, with over 90 colors, several fabrics and lots of styles.  This is for the bride who really wants to customize her maid dresses, or for the bride to  select the fabric and color and let her maids select their own personal style.  And all of these dresses would be worn again.  Very nice!

T. Carolyn  is truly a Houston store that  has turned into, in my opinion, The Best Place anywhere to find non-matronly gowns for the mother of the bride, other  formal events, or a simple garden party.

Something Old, Something New, Something Purple??

2

Purple is one of those versatile shades that can be bright, playful, sultry, and subtle, depending on the finish and depth of color.  Purple makes green eye pop, brown eyes brighter, and gives blue eyes a cool iciness.

First ladies Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy have appeared publicly in vibrant purple clothes, and violet eye make up has been popping up everywhere from Gucci advertisements to Angelina Jolie’s eyelids, in lilac to eggplant.

01053222“Purple is that rare shade that almost always looks good with all skin tones,” says makeup artist Christian McCulloch.  And while purple can certainly add drama, makeup artists say that lilac and violet shades are an easy and appealing way to bust out of neutrals and add a shot of color to the eyes, and a boost to your outlook.

With a few key strategies from the experts, even a shrinking violet can pull off purple eye makeup.

1 – For medium skin tones that have a golden cast, choose an intense, bluish purple (like amethyst or iris) or plum.  Just don’t go too pink, “or your eye will look sore,” says McCulloch.  Asian women usually look fantastic in lavender shadow, says makeup artist Romero Jennings.  And women with pale or dark skin can wear pretty much any shade of purple.  The exception: colors with a lot of white in them can look garish on dark skin.

2 – If your skin is pink, dab a little concealer on the lids before applying shadow to prevent the purple from looking bruised.  And women with dark undereye circles should apply slightly more concealer than normally to counteract purple shadow on the lids, says Jennings.

3 – Shimmer makes dark purple less stark and easier to blend.  But for women who worry that sparkle brings out crepiness on the lids, Jennings recommends using nonmetallic shadow and dabbing an iridescent powder just along the lash line.

4 – For a subtle purple look that you can even wear to work, Jennings suggests applying a chocolate brown shadow from the last line to the lilac-eyeshadow-gtl021207-240x31222crease, adding just a dot of bright purple on the outer corner and blending well.  “People will see a flash of color when you blink,” he says.

5 – To make purple eye shadow more dramatic for evening, Jennings adds a streak of dark pencil along the lash line.  For dark complexions, go with the blackest black you can find.  Women with lighter skin can use a softer black or brown.

6 – Purple is a natural friend to red hair, red clothes, even red makeup, says McCullock:  “Purple eyes with red, deep pink, or magenta lipstick and a black dress look amazing.”  Just watch the blush, says makeup artist Susan Glordano—too much will look Easter-basket-y, so skip it entirely or stick with a pale shade.
